When August rolls around it means it’s time for back to school shopping around the nation, and the Lowcountryis proud to support education for every grade. Kids of all ages from pre-school to college are gearing up to hit the books for another year. In Moncks Corner the first day of school starts on August 19th, which means the end of the summer break is right around the corner.

Moncks Corner is located in the Berkeley County School District. In total there are 19 elementary schools, 3 intermediate schools, 8 middle schools and 8 high schools. The schools located in the city of Moncks Corner include:

If you’ve never enrolled your kids in one of the many schools in South Carolina here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The Berkeley County School District is accredited by SACS, and the district has received AdvancED District Accreditation as of 2010.
  • During the 2013-2014 school year there were a total of 30,751 students enrolled in Berkeley County schools.
  • Elementary schools are kindergarten through 2nd grade, intermediate schools are 3rd-5th grade and middle schools are 6th-8th grade.
  • Act 155, which was signed by Governor Nikki Haley in April 2014, states that starting with the graduating class of 2015 students will no longer have to meet exit examine requirements outlined by State Regulation to get a South Carolina high school diploma.
  • South Carolina school districts are governed by school boards with trustees that are either elected or appointed.
