Indigo Palms: Best Places for Theater and Live Arts in North Charleston

It’s fairly safe to say that the North Charleston, SC area is no stranger to patronizing the arts and theatre. With virtually dozens of locations that allow the artistically inclined an opportunity to express themselves to the masses, there is no shortage of venues serving as creative outlets.

Here are some of our favorites around the area:

Performing Arts Center
A satellite venue of the larger North Charleston Coliseum, the PAC has played host to some of the most prolific artists and performers the world has seen. From Anthony Bourdain and Jerry Seinfeld, to renditions of Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and more, there is a little something for everyone.

North Charleston City Gallery
A community gallery, through and through, the City Gallery is located in a picturesque portion of Waterfront Park, which makes it a fantastic spot for special and private events. The biggest draw, though, is that the gallery welcomes local and amateur artists from around the region to come and showcase their works. That means it’s the perfect time for you to dust off those old canvases and offer up your own contributions.

South of Broadway Theatre
A hodge podge of fully produced shows, classes, internships, youth productions and more, South of Broadway Theatre is a contemporary outfit that has been a contributing member of the Charleston arts community since the early 2000s.

North Charleston Coliseum
The sister venue of the PAC, the Coliseum is designed for larger, more high-profile acts and performances. Guests have been wowed by Cirque du Soleil, amused by Ron White, and amazed by Blue Man Group, Prince, and many others, since its construction in 1993.

Midtown Theatre
A non-profit collective that produces shows, hosts seminars and guest speakers, and even teaches amateur acting classes, Midtown Theatre is a gem within the arts community, priding itself on fostering a grassroots approach to both teaching and producing quality theatre.
