Indigo Palms: Parks and Recreation Near Indigo Palms

Parks are a common ground for community members to come together for fun and leisure. A city with a good parks and recreation department often supports a strong community. In North Charleston, there are more than enough parks and recreation opportunities to please residents of all ages and interests. Many of the North Charleston homes for sale – specifically the attractive and affordable Crescent Homes -- are being snatched up quicker than they can be built thanks to a strong community with excellent neighborhoods and beautiful nearby parks. In fact, the city of North Charleston operates nine public parks and athletic facilities, as well as numerous community centers that are available for rent to local residents. That’s not to mention the numerous parks and attractions in neighboring Charleston just a 15 minute drive away.

Riverfront Park
This beautiful park is set on the banks of the Cooper River and bordered by Noisette Creek.  Located on the former Charleston Naval Base, Riverfront Park is adjacent to historic homes once occupied by US Naval Officers. Be sure to visit the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial, which honors both military personnel and civilians who served our country while the base was operational. Riverfront Park hosts several annual activities, including the National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition and an annual Fourth of July Festival.

Park Circle
Park Circle is one of North Charleston’s most popular recreational areas. Just minutes from your home in Indigo Palms, the park’s most unique quality is its circular construction in the middle of one of the oldest areas of North Charleston. Park Circle is very large, containing baseball fields, a gazebo and a children’s play area. Families and teens will enjoy the disc golf course that surrounds the perimeter of Park Circle, and the walking paths and outdoor pond of nearby Quarterman Park is just a two-minute walk down the street. Visit the Butterfly Garden in the spring and fall to see the largest number of butterflies.

Waterfront Park
Not many parks are recognized as public attractions from outsiders and tourists, but Waterfront Park is the exception to that rule. It’s just a short drive away, in historic downtown Charleston. Set alongside the Cooper River, Waterfront Park is a destination for locals and families year-round. Most visitors come to the park to read a book or go for a jog, though some simply come to gaze out at the ocean and watch the world go by. Waterfront Park is not designed like most other parks in the region, in that it is a linear park along the entry to Charleston Harbor that spans over 8 acres. Throughout the property visitors will find shaded areas, big lawns, interesting water features, trails and paths. Browsing through the park will bring you to seemingly private gardens that offer peace and quiet in the middle of a bustling city. Picnic tables are a great place to take in some sandwiches, and the wooden swings are the perfect spot for gazing out into one of Charleston’s beautiful sunsets.

Children between the ages of five and twelve can enroll in a variety of other activities, including an after school program, mini-camps during school holidays and summer camps during the warmest months of the year. All daytime children’s programs are well-supervised with age-appropriate activities and include a nutritious meal at lunchtime.
