The Cottages at Stono Ferry: Exploring the History of Hollywood, SC

Hollywood, SC is a treasure trove of historical facts, sites and other information that all come together to make this area unique. Nestled next to Ravanel, in Charleston County, Hollywood is the embodiment of vivid culture with a quiet and relaxed disposition. Below are just a few things that have historically shaped the town and surrounding area:

Dixie Plantation
Located right off of Highway 162, next to the Stono River, Dixie Plantation is a bastion of history in the antebellum South. Currently owned by the College of Charleston Foundation, this quiet and picturesque piece of land dates back as far as the late 1600s.

The Old Firehouse Restaurant
Although the restaurant was started in 2002, it was founded at the site of a once-functional firehouse built in the 1950s. St. Paul’s fire station served as the go-to house for Hollywood and the St. Paul’s Parrish area for many years.

Oyotunji African Village
About a 20-minute drive from Hollywood, down Highway 17, the Oyotunji African Village is the only community in SC that’s based on the traditions of tribes originating in West Africa. Founded in 1970, the community regularly welcomes visitors and holds a series of yearly festivals celebrating different aspects of the culture.
