The summer is a great time to explore the parks and outdoor areas of the Lowcountry and one of the favorite spots in the Summerville area is the Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site. Because much of the town of Dorchester has been destroyed over the years, what remains has become well-preserved and speaks volumes to the history and architecture of the area. The park has several times of year where they will perform organized digs and the public can watch as new and exciting pieces are unearthed and learn first-hand how they shaped the history of Summerville. Throughout the year, park members can be updated on new finds and participate in the history of the area through reenactments and other fun activities.
