This school district has twenty-one schools, plus a high school evening school program, an alternative education program, and an adult education program. Two of the district’s High Schools, Fort Dorchester and Summerville, have been awarded the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) by the American School Counselor Association for outstanding school counseling programs. The majority of Dorchester School District 2 schools won the Palmetto Gold Award for Achievement from the State Department for Education for the 2012-2013 school year. Knightsville Elementary School
Children in White Gables attend Knightsville Elementary School which serves kindergarten through fifth grade. Dubose Middle School
Middle school students in White Gables attend Dubose Middle School which serves students in sixth through eighth grade. Dubose stresses communication between parents and the school as well encouraging student responsibility. The school has won the Palmetto Gold Award for Achievement for the second year in a row and won the Palmetto Sliver Award for Closing the Achievement Gap in 2012. Dubose places a high emphasis on the fine arts and athletics as well as academics. It has the largest steel drum band in the United States. Its band has been rated excellent by the SC Music Educators Association. The Chorus received a superior rating at the Carowinds competition.

Summerville High School
This large high school is served by a principal and eight assistant principals. Its counseling program has received recognition for excellence from the American Association of School Counselors. Each Summerville High student works towards their career goals with the help of an Individual Student Graduation Plan (IGP). Students may choose courses from categories that will help them on their career and college paths. There is a heavy emphasis on preparing academically for college and planning how to financially achieve a college education. Dorchester School District 2 offers online preparation for the college entrance exams (SAT/ACT) to all students in the district at no costs to parents. The counseling department at Summerville offers daily online tips to parents and works to keep parents involved in their high school age child’s education.


Career and Technology Education (CATE)
Summerville High offers CATE courses in the following categories: Business/Technology, Family and Consumer Science, Media Technology, Project Lead the Way (Engineering) and Sports Medicine. Students in the Media Technology courses produce WAVE-TV, Summerville High’s own in-school station. Students that complete all the CATE requirements for their chosen category receive a certificate at the Senior Awards Ceremony and recognition with a special cord at graduation and mention in the graduation program.


Early College
Summerville High School is a proud participant in the Early College Program. Eligible students receive the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree or career certificate or diploma while they are earning their high school diploma. College credits are offered through Trident Technical College. Career paths emphasize technology and include: Aeronautics, Health Professions, Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism, and Engineering and Industrial Technology. Students who meet academic and behavioral criteria can begin earning college credit as early as ninth grade. Students taking college credit in the program are held to the same rigorous standards as adult students. The Early College Program allows students to earn college credits at little or no cost to their families.

Summerville High School offers students a fine athletic program and a Navy JROTC program in addition to excellent academics and career preparation. Sports include baseball, basketball, football, cheerleading, volleyball, tennis, hockey, golf, softball, swimming, wrestling, cross country, track and field, and soccer. The school also offers theater, band and chorus, in addition to numerous student clubs.
